Attracted by the big exam

The last youth world event in Szombathely took place 16 years ago at the 1990 Cadet World Champs where we could celebrate Hungarian triumphs for example later Olympic champion István Majoros’ victory in 43 kg.

The tournament was already held in three styles with just 11 girls from 5 countries in four categories and no Hungarian wrestler yet.

With several prestigious events behind its back Szombathely became part of the wrestling history of the 21st century. The Hungarian Grand Prix has a constant home here while outstanding local freestyle talent Gábor Hatos of Haladás VSE took bronze at the recent European Champs in Moscow and the Wöller brothers of Vasi Volán are also expected to reach similar heights. They are also the examples to follow for the young generations who are about to make their first steps on the mats of Szombathely towards fame.

The wrestling map of Hungary is so rich that Szombathely is already the third city after Székesfehérvár (1992) and Budapest (1999) to host a junior continental event. The competition to come has a special importance since we are facing the big home test for the generation of the Mr. Tus Wrestling School who have been preparing two times a day for already four years under the leadership of brilliant masters in the spirit of the modern ages. This is not only a pattern for Hungarian wrestling in the race with the world but also provides a good base and gives confidence that the future generations will be able to carry on the enormous heritage of our sport.

May I ask all representatives and friends of wrestling to be in the new sport hall of Szombathely to help and support our kids while I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the leaders and people of Szombathely for their heartfelt and dedicated preparation of the year’s main event.
